A bike ride to Malshej Ghat and Pimpalgaon Joga Dam

After the busy schedule of the whole week we get a day called as “Sunday” which is created for outing and trekking for me. So after hearing a lot about the scenic Malshej Ghat(a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range in the Thane district of Maharashtra, India), I finally decided to have a bike ride on 17th November 2013 and start my journey from pune at around 9am.
I started from kondhwa my home and hit the old Mumbai pune highway till Kasarwadi and took a right turn to catch Pune-Nashik highway, after some bad patches, bridge construction and small diversion on Nashik Phata I reached the beautiful toll road which are simply awesome for bike ride.
Road direction:
Malshej Ghat is around 130Km from pune city, we have to reach Pune Camp (M.G Road) if we are coming from kondhwa, Hadapsar or Magarpatta area and catch Mumbai highway and drive towards Shivajinagar,Khadki, Dapodi and take right turn on the flyover near Kasarwadi (Nashik Phata).
One way journey can be completed in 2.30-3.00 hour approximately.
Road are bit smaller than NH4 but the road condition are well maintained.
On the way to Malshej Ghat you can enjoy the beauty of Junnar-Kalyan (via Ganeshkhind) Ghat and Pimpalgaon Joga Dam.
The road conditions are decent for long drive and the surrounding nature is pretty attractive,lonely and beautiful, weather conditions are too good during winter and rain season.

A Pimpalgaon Dam is around 5Km long stretch with the scenic beauty and plain back water, which is also a shelter for migrated birds.

After crossing the 5km scenic, reached the needle point exactly to the right side of the tunnel entry of the Malshej Ghat which is ideal of the Ghat which is surrounded by Western Ghats.

Small rocks and isolated location makes this place a perfect picnic spot. A large numbers of families come here to enjoy their weekend picnic and it’s a suitable hangout place for youngsters.

For one day outing Malshej Ghat is perfect place.
Best time to visit the place will be the rainy and winter season to enjoy the beauty of surrounding expanse of the Ghat and only good option stay and food is MTDC hotel.
